Women in Ancient Greece
Thematic Walk
When we think about Ancient Greece, we often think of epic warriors or bearded philosophers… but the women of Ancient Greece also have stories to tell!
What was the daily life of a wife, a slave or a prostitute? Why were Spartan girls kidnapped? What happened during the mysterious women’s festival in Athens?
Walking in the ancient city with your guide, you’ll immerse yourself in the daily life of an Ancient Greek woman. Follow in the footsteps of legendary women like Sappho, Aspasia, and Agnodice, who defied societal expectations and became leaders, philosophers, doctors, and poets. Discover how Greek mythology influenced women’s roles through the stories of Athena, Penelope, Demeter, and the enigmatic Pandora.
You’ll admire all the main sites of the ancient city through the female perspective, from Hadrian’s Library to the Ancient Agora, through the Gate of Athena and Pnyx, where the first democratic votes happened. After a fantastic view of the Acropolis, the tour will finish under Filopappou Hill, a perfect place to continue your exploration.
